It is true that Father Christmas was invented by Queen Victoria (although they pretended it came from her husband, Prince Albert, because in those days women weren't allowed to invent things - which is still the case in Scotland). Saint Nick was from the Netherlands where he is revered because one cold, winter morning he stuck his finger in a dyke and saved the whole of mainland Europe. He also invented chimneys, which was well appreciated because up till then living rooms got very smokey, very smokey, in deed.
