Lord, you endowed St. John of the Cross with a spirit of self-denial and love of the cross. By following his example may we come to the eternal vision of your glory. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
I tend to prefer stories of the martyrs of the first five centuries over saints from the Middle Ages, but I have a slight interest in St. John of the Cross as I played him in skits in the Follies at CDSP. I played him as "Johnny Cross," a kinda slimy guy, to fit in with our running joke regarding "Sex With Angels." If you want to read some stuff about St. John of the Cross, I'm sure someone somewhere in the Episcopal Blogosphere has posted a Very Nice and Reflective post, probably someone like Reverenda Penelope or Faddah Harry.
I'm spending the day at Clericus; I'll letcha know if anything exciting happens.

Ditto what Revda. Penelope said above, 'cept I din't have an entry today -- yet -- on Juan de la Cruz, one o' my buddies. I did get to visit his tomb in Segovia in 1998; he'd be shocked to see it: mas un-Carmelito! Also saw his little chair used to hear confessions of da Hermanas at Encarnacion...he musta been a real little guy, cuz the chair is only about 16 in. high! However, I never heard nuttin' about no "Sex with Angels"..what's dat all about?!
