R.I.P., Don Van Vliet, aka Captain Beefheart.

I'll never forget crawling into my room in an altered state of consciouness waaaaay back in the 1970's, turning on the radio to KFJC-FM and hearing THIS!

Changed my life!

He was a painter and a poet. Listen to this!

This is almost, but not quite, as sad as losing James Brown on Christmas Day.

May the Captain rest in peace and rise in glory. My sympathy to you, Padre Mickey.

Padre Mickey,

I feel the loss, too. Back in the 70's I listened to him and Frank Zappa all the time. Bongo Fury, Muffin Man and Good Night Irene by the Captain are all on my favorites list. (I even named my new cat Captain Beefheart in a less than reasoned state of mind.)

There. That is proof that there is commonality between (at least some) traditionalist and progressive priests.

From somewhere west of the holly roller church out in cucamonga I wish you God's blessing and a Merry Christmas.
