A couple of weeks ago I posted photos of the old rectory as we moved the stuff out and off to the storage area. Work started the Monday after Epiphany and has been going full speed. It's a bit tough as we have lost use of our patio, but when they're done we'll have a great space.
They've gutted the interior, started building the extension to the building, and will start on new walls soon. Methods here are different than what one experiences in the Developed World but are quite common for the Developing World. They mix the concrete on the drive way using a shovel, which I don't recall seeing done in California.
Here are some photos of the work performed over the past two weeks.
January 14
January 15
Preparing the foundation
Replacing the stolen copper pipe. Someone climbed over the wall early in the morning and stole the copper pipe. Mr. Hudson came in at 6:00am to find water pouring like a fountain. The contractors turned it off and replaced the copper with pvc. No one steals pvc!
January 20
Bloques
Stuff for concrete
New plumbing
January 21
Mixing concrete
January 22 Lots of progress!
We're working on establishing a paypal account for donations to the cause, and a new blog on which to record the progress of the project.

Yes, Padre, it all feels so very familiar! And if you have no driveway, they mix it on the street in front. Mixing concrete is like making the dough for a big pastry.
The blessings of Dios Todopoderoso on your new remodeling project. "Por favor Señor send angelitos to protect this worksite, all of its building materials & tools and all who labor here."
Amen! Blessings on this project.
What developed World? Are you kidding, we, yes the we´s of on-the-ground and shovel cement mixers are happy as clams (mostly)...vs, Fox News neo-blowhards, liars and thieves (well, sure a little copper tubing ¨gets lost¨in the shovel and a couple dozen bus drivers get gunned down because they don´t pay the extortion which oddly seems about as holy as the U.S. Supreme Court purifying the medium/lower classes in the good old U.S.A. by selling them out to big business)...extortion, exploitation and yes, we will continue to BUILD a brighter future both at your rectory, in Haiti and other places where MOST spiritually healthy people are willing to dig in and do the grunt work.
Geez, you guys are serious, Padre! Muchas bendiciónes on the project!
Congratulations on the big project. I hope it goes well.
