Friday Random Top Ten
Ya pushes "shuffle" and ya takes yer chances. . .
1. Thief (call 119)! Red Rat
2. Everything Will Be Alright The Killers
3. Shut Up Black Eyed Peas
4. Clown Strike Elvis Costello and the Attractions
5. Wrong Side Of The Moon Squeeze
6. La Volta (Byrd) I Fagiolini
7. Antiphon and Ivitatory Psalm: Regem (6th Mode) Monastic Choir of the Abbey of St. Peter, Solemes
8. Sunrise The Who
9. Baptize Me Rev. J. M. Gates & Congregation
10. Nightingale Roxy Music
Kinda all over the place, eh? The first three songs are from the 21st century (well, Red Rat's from 2000, which is technically the 20th century), two songs in a row by 1980's Pop Heroes, then, boom! into the late 15th, early 16th century. THEN monks chanting us into a stupor. The Who (appearing on this list two weeks in a row!) quietly take us back to the 20th century and them crazy 1960's. I wish you could hear the Rev. J. M. Gates and his congregation baptizing people. We finish with Roxy Music. Not a bad list at all, and we're even-steven on the videos.
Watchoo listenin' to?

Hey Padre! I gots me a iPod now, a hand-me-down from a CA friend. So I can play. I've never pushed "shuffle," so here goes....
Okay first I'm gonna push just in iTunes on my compootah.
1. Ella Fitzgerald, "Don't Fence Me In" by Cole Porter (Well, that's appropriate for me right now.)
2. Taizé "Alleluia 7" (They gots lotsa alleluias dere.)
3. Goudimel, Psalm 163 from Psalms of the French Reformation (very purty)
4. Dave Brubeck, "Three to Get Ready" from "Take Five"
(Hey, how come "shuffle" always picks the first cut of albums? At least on this here iTunes. I will try on the actual iPod and see if it is different.)
5. "Prayer to Hanuman" by Krishna Das (That's Hanuman the Monkey god :-).)
6. "I've Got a Crush on You" - Ella Fitzgerald Sings the George & Ira Gershwin Songbook (Geez, I gots Juice Newton too, does shuffle not know dis?)
7. Frescobaldi - "Fiori Musicali" and other organ stuff.
8. "Lamento Cubano" by the Bebo Valdes Trio!
9. Gershwin Piano Prelude No. 2
(Where's all my Motown?)
10. "Kontome" by Gabin Dabiré (from Burkina Faso)
I think this shuffle goes in alphabetical order by album 'cause that's how it's organized in my iTunes and the "play thingie" was up at the top (actually on "Chan Chan" in the Buena Vista Social Club, but I skipped it because I knew it was there and I wanted a surprise to start with)
Okay, just shuffled my iPod (which is sync'd but not organized the same way, I guess):
1. Corelli Concerto No. 6, 4th movement "Vivace." Nicholas Megegan and co.
2. Mozart Requiem, "Lux Aeterna." (Well, this is cheery.)
3. Maria Caracoles by the Afro-Cuban All Stars.
4 "Chan Chan" - Buena Vista Social Club.
5. Leonard Bernstein, Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, 2d movement, Andantino and Vivace e leggiero
6. John Coltrane, "Welcome" (Really nice meditative piece - I once used it to calm down a bunch of teenage confirmation-class kids in Oakland at the beginning of a session.)
7.Elube Changó - Afro-Cuban All Stars again!
8. Corelli Concerto #1, 4th movement, Allegro. (Nice, in fact very nice, but shuffle is avoiding all my Motown.)
9. "It Is Well With My Soul" on piano by Cyrus Chestnut
10. Blakawout by Mizik Mizik. (Cool Haitian music - we have an African Diaspora theme going here.)
Thanks Padre, for helping me procrastinate! Dis was fun.
Posted mine from the iPhone. Not fun. But done.
