I'll never understand what's been going on at the New York Times for the past few years, but I think the cartoon gives us a glimpse.

As for him taking the job, it's like certain posters on the HODB list who take every opportunty to make some snarky comment about TEC. I think they remain in the church because they are so angry and if they were to leave, they wouldn't know what to do with their anger.; 1:19 PM
