Friday Random Top Ten Five!

Ya pushes "shuffle" and ya takes yer chances. . .

1. Meri Mehbooba (Pardes) Kumar Sanu & Alka Yagnik
2. Dear Madam Barnum XTC
3. I'll Be Rested Mavis Staples
4. We Love You (12" version) Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
5. Tips For Teens Sparks

Okay, it's not getting any better than Tips For Teens. I'm sorry, but that's the stone-cold truth. The only way it would have gotten better was if the shuffle picked some Big Star, but it didn't, and that would have been Highly Suspect anyway.
Well, we gots quite a list here! Meri Mehbooba is a fun song from the Bollywood classic Pardes, starring Shahrukh Khan and the incredibly beautiful Mahima Chaudhry, who made her debut in that film and never topped it. XTC's lil' numbah comes from their marvelous Nonesuch album, the last album they recorded before they went on strike for seven years. Mavis Staples' I'll Be Rested is a wonderful Litany of the Saints of the Civil Rights Movement and will bring tears to your eyes, so click on the link to hear the song (I haven't watched the video; sorry!). The OMD song isn't one of their best but isn't terrible, either. But Tips For Teens just brings everything to a grinding halt. Just the drumming on this song ALONE makes it a list Show Stoppah, but the lyrics, ah, the lyrics:
I've got a snapshot of your Aunt Maureen
She's 90 and you're a teen
I'm trying to cheer you up
Don't be so mean, don't be so mean

Crash, bam, now you're looking good
Tip Top, now you're feeling good
Once more, here's your Aunt Maureen
Don't you feel good, don't you feel good?

Chorus:
Tips For Teens, Tips For Teens,
the kind you don't see in magazines
Tips For Teens, Tips For Teens,
the kind you don't see on T.V. screens
Tips For Teens, Tips For Teens!

Wake up to music
And say you're too sick to go to work

Soon, you will lose all your zits
Tight sweaters no longer fit
Jetsetters will make their pitch
I told you so, I told you so

Chorus

Don't eat that ice cream
It is vanilla
Give it to me

Don't eat that pastry
What's in the middle
Give it to me

Don't eat that burger
Has it got mayonnaise
Give it to me

Keep that mystique up
And wear a "D" cup
No matter what

Don't eat no curry
Before a very
Important date

Do I look so knowing and old and wise
Maby it's those Dacron ties
How come you keep asking me
For Tips For Teens, for Tips For Teens?

Crash, bam, now you're looking good
Tip Top, now you're feeling good
Once more, here's your Aunt Maureen
Don't you feel good, don't you feel good?

Wadda YOU listenin' to? Can't be better than Tips For Teens unless you're going through the Big Star catalogue, but tell me all about it in the comments.

I don't know if I can beat that. Right now I'm listening to
Poker Face and Bad Romance by Lady Gaga. Yes, that's right Lady Gaga with such great lyrics as P-p-p-p Poker Face. And mm mm mm muh.

But my real love is Glee. I've listened to them several times and got the albums for Christmas. When I stumpled across an old copy of Rapsody that allowed me to play some old musical songs I got
1) Singing in the Rain
2) Sit down you're rocking the boot from Guys and Dolls
3) Good morning from Singing in the rain
4) Moses Toeses from Singing in the Rain
5) Make 'em Laugh from SitR

In a way I would really like the video as well as just the songs. I love watching the dancing from all of these songs too.

Keep dancin'

I always think about this song when I cook curry. Do I have a very important date coming up?

What am I listening to?

The Balfour Gardiner "Evening Hymn", but it is playing only in my head.

A pale imitation is here. There are much paler versions to be found on youtube, but don't bother.

wv = clogynow
(enough line-dancing already!)

I See You!
