This Weekend At Parroquia San Cristóbal

This weekend we celebrated the 71st anniversary of Parroquia San Cristóbal, or, as it was called 71 years ago, St. Chistopher's Church.

On Saturday we held a Prayer Breakfast at Restaurante Waikiki. This event was our major fund raiser for the year, and it was well attended; there must have been some twenty tables and all the tables were full! I wasn't able to get many photos as the Lovely Mona wasn't feeling well and couldn't wander about, while I had my duties as Rector. Mr. Ricardo Gayle served as our Master of Ceremonies, and he was excellent in that role. The Rt. Rev. Julio E. Murray, Diocesan Bishop of the Diocese of Panamá, was our guest speaker, and he talked about prayer (big surprise!) and was very inspiring. We honored three members of the parish for their tireless work over the years: Mrs. Rachel Weeks, Mrs. Alda Allen, and Mrs. Sislin Thomas. They were given beautiful plaques and many gifts from various guilds and from their friends and families. We had many prayers and thanksgivings and songs, and it was a beautiful morning, all in all.

Sunday morning was our Patronal Festival, and Bishop Murray was our preacher and celebrant. We welcomed a baby into the family of God, and we also honored a few other members of the parish for their dedicated service: Prof. Joyce Green, Mrs. Nora Johnson, Mrs. Edna Marshall, Mrs. Emily Moore, Mrs. Sandra Edwards, Mrs. Thelma Jordan, Mrs. Layla Rodriquez, Mrs. Tania Cole, Mrs. Vielka Arthur, and Prof. Priscilla McQueen. The Bishop surprised us all when he made Mrs. Adica Moore "Lay Minister Emeritus" for all she has done over many decades. The Young people did a play about Christian service. We also dedicated the new Parish Hall and had a lovely breakfast. The Lovely Mona missed it all as she is suffering from a nasty case of the flu, but she's getting better! I thank Ms. Sadie Taylor and Ms. Angie Kinch for helping with photos.

Glad the Lovely Mona is starting to feel better.

I love baby baptism pictures. Great photo of the bishop holding up the baby.

And yes, Felicidades! Looks like a beautiful celebration.

Hey, if the bishop does that baptizing, does the little still need to be confirmed later?

Happy day for all of you at St Chris'.
