What The Heck?

Second Amendment Enthusiasts Gather To Trade Recipes

What the heck is going on? I've read several reports stating that 12 people with assault rifles were wandering about outside the building at which President Obama was holding a Town Hall meeting. There has also been an increase in right-wing militia activity.

Maybe it's just me, but as a person who came of age in the early 1970's, I get nervous when people other than the Secret Service appear at a presidential event toting loaded guns. Heck, when Dubya was president a person could be arrested for simply wearing an anti-Bush t-shirt in the hand-picked audience of one of his events. Can you imagine what would have happened if an anti-war protester had appeared at a Bush event armed?

It's only a matter of time before one of these crazy-ass gun nuts second amendment enthusiasts' gun goes off "accidentally" and there is Big Trouble. In case one may think I'm overreacting, just listen to this example of violent language from a Right Wing Republican Hero, Mr. Joe-the-not-really-a-Plumber.

What a crazy country!

UPDATE Amanda has a great post on this subject at Pandagon

Padre, perhaps you and The Lovely Mona may want to reconsider your decision to return to the US. It is, indeed, the land of the crazies. If I weren't so old and encumbered by family, I'd consider leaving.

Of course, I know your family is in the US, and that's a good reason for returning.

WV: "truckin".

Padre Mickey,
I came of age in tje 60's and remember when two young men wlaked into a government building with flags on their "backside". One flag was the Viet Cong and the other was the american flag. Guess which one got arrested?

The Libertarian speaketh... Ya' know what? Between the uber-right and the union goons, it is getting a tad unsavory out there. I say this as a reminder that there are rotten apples on both sides of the orchard.

I do support the right of firearms ownership by responsible, law-abiding adults citizens, I have to agree that this is a reckless and irresponsible act. showboating is irresponsible and immature bahavior that probably mitigate one's right to bear firearms.

Honorable Grossmutter, I gave my salad years (20+) to the defense of this republic and I'm not ready to give up on 'er yet.

I support the 2nd amnedment because if someone tinkers with that one then they will tinker with a bunch more and I just do not think there is anyone smart enough to work in that area. We cannot afford some one from say, Anglican Crumudgeon fumbling around with the Bill of Rights.

I See You!
