It's Back!

Mac Mini is back from the hospital. He had a bad hard drive. A new hard drive was installed, but I think it is smaller than the original, because I had 1.34 gb of space on the hard drive when it went into the shop, and now it's full. I did purchase an external hard drive (320 gb!) so now everything is backed-up but I wants more room. I gotta talk to dem peoples.

Busy day; will post stuff mañana.

Huzzah! And Welcome back to the land of the living. Who says Macs just go on forever?

Huh. Did they stick on a different OS that eats up more memory?

Sorry I haven't been here as often as I'd like. This new church eats up my time in ways I couldn't have imagined.

Hope your sabbatical is going well.

Will you be in Anaheim for GC (or are you going to the other end of the earth to avoid it)?

Glad to hear that the Mac is well. There are only two kinds of hard drives in the world ... those that have crashed and those that will.

Looking forward to meeting you at the NJ gathering.

Glad that you are back.

However, hard drives need a bit of room to work. You should never fill an HDD more than 80% or you will experience quite a hit in overall performance. If it is full, it has no scratch space in which to write temporary files, and you can expect weird things to happen.

(The word verification is halibro. That must be the name of the new, friendlier company of the torturer in chief, The Dick the Cheney!)

With my crash in January, I "bumped up" to 250GB from 160 on my laptop, but maybe they can't do that with the mini. So, for not too much money, I've expanded the life of my computer.

Padre, you might also consider one of these, which I am getting later this month for my new 2009 Mac Mini which I bought last month. It is the same footprint as the Mini and sits under it.

You would want the v2.5 for your model Mac Mini. Hook up both the Firewire and the USB and extend the number of both types of ports that you will have available for other peripherals, so you could go from 2 to 4 USB ports and from 1 to 2 FireWire ports.

Another thing to consider is that this external HDD is faster than the one inside the Mini, 4300 vs 7200 rpms. So MacWorld.com recommends using the external drive as your main drive with your Operating System. If you got a 250 or 320 GB HDD you could format it as your Startup volume and then devote the internal drive to your iTunes library.

If you feel in the need of a tech support friend, I have worked with Macs 25+ years, since 1984 with the original, and can assist you with any questions that you have.

I See You!
