Time To Take Action

Bishop Orama of Nigeria made a stupid, hateful comment which has fueled a conversation over at Fr. Jake's place all day. It has been a less than pretty conversation, especially with the King of Stand Firm attempting to convince folks that if ++Aklinola is responsible for the words of +Orama, then ++KJS is responsible for the words of retired +Spong (Matt Kennedy did denounce the statement of +Orama, but any Christian would!). I wonder which Global South province is planning to make Faddah Matt a bishop! It seems that all the reasserters are buying new purple shirts.

Bishop Orama's comments have left me sick all day, and I must say that I am happy to see this new blog Akinola, Repudiate Anti-Gay Violence to help get the word out. Also, some work is being done to organise a protest when ++Akinola visits Wheaton College this weekend. News about the planned demonstration will be available at Father Jake Stops The World

I apologise for not posting this sooner, but I had a lot of priesty stuff to do today.

I just figured out what's really driving all the hullabaloo about furrin bishops.

The CM Almy catalogue "for Bishops in the Anglican Tradition" just arrived.

That's why they are all pissed off! ++Big Pete & company are sweltering in those vestments in the heat of equatorial Africa and it is driving them mad.

Although I'm not sure what's ++Vacables problem. It's winter in the Southern Cone!

As a Catholic with many hierarchal church issues of our own, I watch this situation in your church unfold with a broken heart.

I don't really feel like I am in a position to comment other than this- I send prayers of healing, hope and light.

Thanks for giving me a closer window in which to look, to observe, to pray.

You know I posted the comment and yet something was nagging at me. Then it hit me- something I posted on my church blog the other day when our daily reading was from Thessalonians. (PM I think you have the link if you wish to see it, but am not able to hyperlink here at the moment)

For God did not destine us for wrath, but to gain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live together with him. Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up, as indeed you do.

God did not destine us for wrath... does Bishop Orama know that?

(Wry laughter here, using Paul against the uber-doctrinal almost seems antithetical...)

Let us be children of the light.
