Last week at the Hogar

I finally made it back to the Hogar de Niñas de Capital. Between migración, not having a driver's license and other Monday morning events, I hadn't had a chance to go. Now that that's all settled, I'm able to continue my work there.

I had also bought several new books for the kids. I'm into Disney Hadas (fairies) right now. The girls who like to borrow my books took them first.

Tía Sue asked me to work with 3 girls, two who don't read. So I read them a story and afterward worked with them on counting and reading number, 1-10.

Here are the girls bringing chairs to the desk so we can work.

Here's Ana reading. The cards laid out are for Avelia and the other girl whose name I don't remember.

Here's a photo of one of the girls I worked with.

The girls were called away because a very special program was about to be presented to them. Businesses, like schools, have to do community service. On this day, a cookie company came to teach values and play games. The games I saw involved packages of cookies, such as "hot cookies" instead of "hot potato." Everyone who participated got a prize.

I love the values on the banner: respect, responsibility, tolerance, honesty, love, civility, generosity, liberty, and friendship.

Here the girls are showing they know where there ankles are. The game was to point to parts of the body. The girls followed the girl in the orange since she was the only one who knew without hesitation.

This is Hot Potato with a small bag of cookies. The tall girl won.

And here's Tia Sue.

Thanks for the pictures! I was wondering how the girls were doing. Glad you got back there.

It was wonderful to see you two this summer. I hope the rest was good for you...
