Actually #78, #77 and #46 all happened together, and in that order!
I was 15 years old. I was the passenger. It was my first, and only, time! We hit a German Shepherd dog that came out of nowhere and did an end over dump. I broke my left wrist and had a compression fracture of six thoracic vertebra. Thank God for crash helmets! Otherwise, if I survived, it would most likely have been as a carrot or a rutabaga.
I wore a cast on my arm for 8 weeks, was in traction in the hospital for 8 weeks and wore a back brace for 9 months.
It was also the first hints to the young and inexperienced me that Roberto and I were more than neighbors, 2nd cousins and best friends. He was terribly upset that this happened to me without him, and was at my bedside every hour that he could get away from school and chores at home. Even when I was out of it on Demerol.
