Whitsunday

Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy
Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the
earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Amen, Padre Mickey. I wish you and your congregation and your whole beautiful community (which you share with us so generously in pictures and words) joy on this great feast day, and I thank you for your ministry through this blog. Besides helping us laff out loud pretty often, you 'show us how it's done' day by ordinary day in the beautiful kingdom. You make the world small and all of us near to each other.

My church birthday! Well, at least it is my Anglican birthday. It was 19 years ago, Whitsunday 1988, that I was confirmed while in my first year of college. 19 years of this Episcopal/ Anglican stuff. I really like Pentecost.

I especially like the tradition, found in some parishes, where people stand up in their pews and read along with the lector for the second lesson (the one from Acts) in all sorts of languages. There are invariably a couple of visitors to the parish that day and their looks seem the closest thing to the experience of the people in the lesson.

Dennis, Happy Birthday! How lovely to have your Confirmation on Pentecost and the celebration commemoration each year thereafter on the wonderful birthday of the church.

I See You!
