Thirty Years Ago Today

Thirty years ago today the Lovely Mona and I stood in front of family and friends in the chapel of Saratoga Federated Church and made solemn vows to take each other as husband and wife, to have and to hold from that day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until we are parted by death. Many of our friends had never been to a wedding held inside, especially inside a church, 'cuz that was back when everybody got married outside, barefoot with flowers in their hair. Our friends were also shocked that we had a string quartet playing at the reception rather than some noisy rock band. That bunch of friends, so easily shocked and surprised, are probably surprised that we are still married, as they gave the Lovely Mona a year until she would be so disgusted with me that she kicked me out. Surprise, surprise!!

Well, there have been times when I have disgusted her a bit, but not enough to kick me out the door. So far we've had good times and not so good times, but we've been in good time mode for quite a while. It's too bad that our anniversary falls in Holy Week this year, but Holy Week was made for humans, not humans for Holy Week, so I'm not going to worry about it.

Our wedding photos are at our place in the U.S.A. However, you can choose from one of the following and imagine what it was like on March 18, 1978, in Saratoga, California, the day before Palm Sunday. One of the photos is bound be an almost accurate portrayal!

Happy Anniversary, Lovely Mona. I love you.

Don't play poker, Padre, because we already know that you is lucky in looooooove.

Personally, I kind of suck at both, but I suck less at poker.

Best to both you and The Lovely Mona.

Dear Padre Mickey and Lovely Mona,
Many congratulations and blessings to you! Your readers can tell you love each other dearly, and that is, as you well know, a wonderful thing, for you two and also for the world around you. Jesus is probably pretty happy about it too. (See, I fit this into Holy Week. But I'm serious.) Have a happy day and enjoy each other.

We are very lucky to have that great fantasy crew the Lovely Mona and Padre Mickey who have endured each other for 30 years. May God grant many more years of Friday Red Mr. Peanut Bank and Gallito Mescalito Blogging to all of us!

May God continue to richly bless you both, Padre and Mona. For those of us who have not been so lucky in love, your story inspires hope.

May your next 30 years together be even better than the first 30!

Pax,
Doxy

Dearest Padre and Dearest Lovely Mona-

Best wishes of many more years of happiness and joy to you both. Well, whatever you've done, you've hung in there for 30 years despite the inside setting and the fact that people had to wear shoes. And that whole string quartet "thang."

As someone who at age 50 approaches her 1st wedding anniversary (April 28) I hope we have as good luck and great happiness as you have!

Peace in abundance to you both-
FranIam

I vote for the lovely couple in the first frame...it's especially nice because your turban covered and hint of Easters to come.

Besides, you are wonderful and I'm happy as a clam-o that you have your Lovely Mona too. Being in the intimate company of "lovely" says it all.

Love to you both,
