Dolores Scotland's Funeral

Well, my day was pretty much concentrated on the funeral for Dolores Scotland, beloved member of Parroquia San Cristóbal. The funeral at the church was 2.5 hours, and then I had another 45 minutes at the grave-site. The bishop preached and presided at the Eucharist, and six priests participated. I performed the commendation and the graveside duties. It was exhausting!

Dolores was a wonderful person, someone who was very dedicated to the parish and the Diocese and never said ¨no¨ to any request. She sang in the Choir, she was a member of the Vestry several times, she taught our cooking classes and was the Directora of our Training Classes. She was very instrumental in the first Bilingual Cook Book from St. Christopher's and we were working on a new cook book when she was taken by stomach cancer. We will all miss her very much.

I am so tired of losing folks I love. That is one of the most difficult parts of being a parish priest: losing friends and parishioners.

Rest eternal grant unto Dolores, O Lord,
And may light perpetual shine upon her.

May her soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

May she rest in peace and rise and glory.

And may that peace which passes all understanding abide with you Padre. You will be in my prayers.

Prayers for Dolores and all who loved her and for you, whose heart has been broken open again and again by the people who walk with you.

I See You!
