¡Felicidades, Primada Katherine!
Mona and I just watched the investiture of the new Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, the Most Reverend Katherine Jefferts Schori, and it was glorious. The liturgy was wonderful and I will admit that I started to cry when I heard the drummers singing and saw the smudgers preparing the Cathedral for the service. The music (especially the Gospel Choir) and colors were wonderful, and even though I am not a fan of liturgical dance, I must admit that it added to the pageantry (I always joke that liturgical dance reminds me of "One Grecian Urn” in the Music Man, and that number with the water jugs at the Baptismal Font did nothing to change my mind!). The service was very inclusive, and while that word and concept gives the folks at Harmon's place the willies, I think inclusion is wonderful and furthers the Reign of God. I feel so good that I won't even read the comments at those other places, because I really felt God's presence watching that liturgy, and I don't want to lose beauty of this blessing! It was also cool to see my dear friend Reverenda Helen McPeak and my ol' buddy Reverend Johnson Loud, Jr. there on the screen (classmates at CDSP), as well as Obispo Romero, my friend and the assisting bishop back in El Camino Real. What a wonderful day!! Now I gotta write my sermon for tomorrow.
