The Episcopal Church of Panama in Convention this Week

The 87th Convention of the Diocese of Panamá begins tomorrow morning with Clericus at la Catedral de San Lucas. Wednesday morning the Convention of the Youth of the Diocese of Panamá will be held at Iglesia San Francisco de Asís, and a service of Healing and Revival will be held at San Pablo Wednesday evening. Thursday is the Convention of the Episcopal Church Women of Panamá, and Friday we will be holding workshops on the Canons and on Finances at Instituto Episcopal San Cristóbal. Saturday will be the business session, and Sunday we will celebrate with Ación de Gracias at la Catedral de San Lucas. I´m in charge of all the liturgies, so I probably won't be posting much this week. Well, I plan to bring the camera along, so I may post photos when I get home in the evening.

The Commission on Ministry and the Vocational Deaconate Committee will be presenting our plan for a Vocational Deaconate in the diocese. It appears that there is some controversy regarding the plan but I'm really not sure why. We have bigger problems to face as a diocese; the funds we receive from TEC as part of the covenant between IARCA and TEC have been cut by some $50,000.00 (in the case of Panamá) and we will have to come up with some creative ways to deal with this severe cut.

I've been waiting for the bishops of the Global Center to say something about the actions of the bishops of the Global South, but it seems that the GC bishops are concentrating their efforts on the survival of their provinces; it seems that every province in the Global Center is suffering a financial crisis.

Pray for us as we meet this week.
